Fox Boots 'Idol' Favorite's Dad From Backstage

(newser) – David Archuleta may be the fan favorite on "American Idol," but his dad is now Fox's persona non grata backstage. The network has banned Jeff Archuleta, who had been intensely involved in prepping his son, after his call Tuesday to change the lyrics of “Stand By Me,” adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls.”

Fox may have incurred additional expenses because of the alteration, the AP reports, and Jeff made the change despite a warning. Neither father nor son commented on the ban, but on Friday David headed to his hometown of Murray, Utah, where the state's governor declared it “David Archuleta Day.” Responded the fresh-faced singer: “Wow.” Three contestants remain.
