Bosnian War Crimes Suspect Captured

Posted Jun 1, 07 5:59 AM CDT in World

(Newser) – One of the most-wanted war criminals in the world—a suspect in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims —has been arrested in Bosnia. Zdravko Tolimir, a 58-year-old Bosnian Serb, was a close aide of Ratko Mladic, the general who led the slaughter, who is still a fugitive, the BBC reports.

Tolimir was detained in eastern Bosnia, just a few miles from the scene of the killings for which he will be tried at the war crimes court in The Hague. The arrest indicates a new determination on the part of the Belgrade government to hand over  fugitives.
