Zuckerberg Pal Quits as Facebook CTO

(Newser) – In a surprise move, Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer is leaving the company, CNET reports. Adam D’Angelo, 23, felt the job no longer suited his skills and interests, sources told BoomTown. But there were also rumors of increasing tension between D’Angelo and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who have been friends since high school. Meanwhile, the company has borrowed $100 million to expand its server base.

More servers will help handle Facebook’s growing traffic, as well as the site’s variety of flashy applications, Business Week reports. The site boasted 35 million US users in March—up 71% from the previous year. During the same period, the number of international users tripled to 109.2 million. Analysts estimate Facebook uses some 10,000 servers; the loan will allow it to buy another 50,000.
