Missing Student Found Dead in Canyonlands
Jonathan Hogue.   (National Park Service)

The body of a missing University of Iowa student was found in Utah's Canyonlands National Park on Friday after three days of searching. Authorities say the body of 33-year-old Jonathan Hogue was found at the base of the Green River Outlook in the park's Islands of the Sky district, the Des Moines Register reports. They believe Hogue, a graduate teaching assistant who had been studying geography, fell around 500 feet to his death. Hogue is "a hiker and backpacker who is known to hike long distances, including off trail and scrambling," the park said in a Facebook post. "His dream was to be a park ranger." Hogue was reported missing March 12, two days after his car was found parked near the outlook, the Salt Lake Tribune reports. (More Canyonlands stories.)
