Mac's 7-Point Anti-Obama Plan

(Newser) – John McCain has already unveiled his campaign plan over the past few weeks, Michael Scherer reports in Time. Here's how it looks on paper:

  • Pull Obama off his pedestal. Mac is not “blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save my country," he has said—unlike, no doubt, a certain someone.

  • Win over the press. Mac is back on board the “Straight Talk Express" to win free coverage by romancing the media.
  • Make Obama face the people. By playing populist, McCain could force his rival to press the flesh—and reveal some awkwardness.
  • Claim the high road. Sure he'll fight nasty, but Mac will also call for “a respectful campaign”—and hope his rep shines accordingly.
  • Hire a youthful no. 2. Mac will turn 72 before election day and needs a buffer for all the late-night jokes.
  • Win some McCain-o-crats. Mac wants to sway blue-collar lefties.
  • Neutralize Obama’s money advantage. Mac is pushing rich voters to give even after they hit the $2,300 limit.
