Confidence in Bush Still Plunging: Poll

Posted May 13, 08 3:53 AM CDT in US Politics

(Newser) – Support for President Bush has sunk to its lowest level yet, according to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll. Bush's 31% approval rating marks a career low as 82% of Americans now think the country is heading in the wrong direction. Opinions were highly split along partisan lines.

Other findings from the poll:

  • Bush hasn't had majority approval ratings for a record-busting 40 months
  • While 15% strongly approve of Bush's leadership, 52% strongly disapprove
  • Barack Obama leads John McCain by over 20% among those who feel the country is going the wrong way
  • Obama leads McCain 51-44% in a hypothetical general election; Clinton edges McCain 49-46%
