Zambrano Cruises to 5th Straight

Posted May 12, 08 10:38 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Carlos Zambrano won his fifth straight decision and Alfonso Soriano homered in a six-run fifth as the Chicago Cubs won their fourth straight, beating the San Diego Padres 12-3. Pitching with an extra day's rest, Zambrano allowed six hits and three runs in seven innings and also chipped in with his bat.

He doubled to start the Cubs' six-run outburst against Randy Wolf and added a single in the sixth when Chicago tacked on five more runs. The Cubs' first eight batters reached in the fifth on six hits and two walks. Wolf didn't retire a batter in the inning and in four-plus innings, he gave up eight hits, seven runs and five walks.
