Clintons Are Reliving Their Worst Ordeal: Impeachment

(Newser) – For Bill and Hillary Clinton, 2008 is smacking of 1998, as the struggle to stay in the presidential race looks remarkably like the battle to survive impeachment, argues Michael Crowley in the New Republic. The former first couple is under siege again, and again is willing to “ride out any crisis”—wrapping themselves in the mantle of populism and indicting the press.

Just as Hillary Clinton declared herself “field general” of the effort to keep congressional Democrats from bailing on Bill then, she’s now taking her hardest sell to the superdelegates. But the “Clintonian worldview” is so “hardened” that they've overdone the self-victimization, believing Barack Obama has deeply wronged them. However the endgame works out, the Clintons will feel they’ve been “impeached all over again.”
