Carly Gives McCain Eyes in His Business Blind Spot

Posted May 14, 08 7:35 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, is all John McCain could ever ask for in an ambassador to the business classes, Daniel Gross writes on Slate. For every bit of Mac’s personal discomfort talking about economic issues, Fiorina is pure ease—and might even be able to roll back the damage George Bush has done to the GOP’s Wall Street coalition.

Fiorina is “tailor-made for McCain”: A California moderate and a globalist, she penned a memoir called Tough Choices. An economic downturn typically means Americans don’t want to hear what CEOs have to say, but for the presumptive Republican nominee—who has described economics as “not something I’ve understood as well as I should”—the quick-witted Fiorina is an A+.
