Gays Jubilant Over Calif. Ruling

Posted May 15, 08 5:10 PM CDT in US    Most Covered

(Newser) – California gays are ecstatic about the state's supreme court striking down a ban on same-sex marriage, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. “I'm feeling the joy all over,” one gay man, and father, said. In Fresno, a gay couple applied for a marriage license from a somewhat bewildered county clerk who wondered about the “exact language” of the decision, the Bee observed.

Some upset by the ruling spoke of the popular will, saying the court “exchanged the rule of law for the rule of unbridled power to destroy all that is good and sacred," the Los Angeles Times notes. One proud gay parent was thinking smaller: “We can't wait for our kids to get home from school so we can tell them and see them beam!"
