Barkley Pays Up, But It's Not Over Yet

(Newser) – Former NBA great Charles Barkley has paid off his $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino, but he's still got a charge left to settle: the district attorney's office is levying a $40,000 processing fee. Barkley says he hadn't known about the extra charge, but plans to "make restitution on that promptly," AP reports.

Once he's all squared up, Barkely says he will swear off games of chance. "For right now, the next year or two, I'm not going to gamble," he said. "Just because I can afford to lose money doesn't mean I should do it." The unpredictably outspoken television personality could have faced criminal charges if he hadn't paid.
