Hillary Endgame Isn't a Battle in Gender War

Posted May 21, 08 6:06 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – Women who treat Hillary Clinton's candidacy as a feminist symbol and see sexism in calls for her to quit don't quite make sense to Jonathan Chait, writing in the Los Angeles Times. "People of my generation tend to have a less personal view of Clinton," the 36-year-old writes. "She's not us, she's not our ex-wife, she's just a politician."

The furor "looks pretty crazy to those of us not old enough to fight in the second-wave feminist wars," he concludes. "If I spent years being disrespected and discriminated against in my household chores and my workplace, though, maybe I'd see it differently." No politician of either sex stays in a race after the prospect of winning is dead—and this shouldn't be an exception.
