CBS Considers Uncanceling Cult Show

Weeks of 'Jericho' fan protests have the network listening

(Newser) – CBS is reconsidering its decision to cancel the postapocalyptic drama "Jericho" thanks to sustained and vociferous protests from the show's fans. Viewers called, wrote, emailed, and sent 50,000 pounds of peanuts to the network, a reference to a character exclaiming "Nuts!" when asked if the town would surrender in the season finale of the show, which stars Skeet Ulrich.

An order for seven midseason episodes is on the table. Fans say a midseason hiatus hurt ratings, but more telling may be the show's popularity with viewers streaming it online, outside traditional measuring methods. Refuting the stereotype of sci-fi fans, one middle-aged viewer tells the AP, "These are educated professionals."
