Prison Letter Could Nail Bronco's Killer

Ex-cellmate says mail links gang member to Williams shooting

(Newser) – A letter written by a jailed Colorado gang member could tie him to the murder of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, the Rocky Mountain News reports. The letter, intercepted by the suspect's cellmate, mentions the man's worries about a witness who saw him shoot "D-Will." Williams was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on New Year's Day 2007.

The man who provided the letter to the Rocky said the suspect, Willie Clark, told him that Williams had been shot after "talking trash" to gang members, and bragging about having the money to rent out a bar following the Bronco's loss to the '49ers that day. A law-enforcement source tells the Rocky that the handwriting matches Clark's; an independent handwriting analyst concurs. The source, fearing retaliation from the gang, is refusing to testify in court unless the state ups its offer of relocation plus one month's rent in return for testimony.
