Cubs Swinging for Wrigley Record

(Newser) – Shhh, don't jinx it: The Chicago Cubs not only lead the National League, they're playing better at home than on the road. The lovable losers are 26-8 at Wrigley Field, a record they last held before going to (and losing) the World Series in 1918. Now they're on pace for 62 home wins, a first for the team that some say is cursed.

"It's just a coincidence," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry says. But in a superstitious sport, players note that Derrek Lee has hit 11 of his 13 dingers at Wrigley. In fact, several Cubs are playing better at home—Fukudome is batting .377, and often erratic Ryan Dempster has seven wins there. Coincidence? With 17 of 26 June games on the road, they'll soon find out.
