Sect Leader's Daughter Still in State Custody

Posted Jun 3, 08 4:50 PM CDT in Crime & Courts US

(Newser) – The hundreds of kids returned to their FLDS-member parents over the past 2 days did not include one high-profile child: the 16-year-old daughter of sect leader Warren Jeffs. The girl's lawyer pushed to keep her in state custody because she has been sexually abused by an adult sect member—not Jeffs—and the state was negotiating her release to her mother, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The terms under which the children were released included "no restrictions or provisions which take into account the immediate risk of her alleged perpetrator having access" to the girl, her lawyer said. Under a deal struck today, the girl will live in San Antonio with her mother and have no contact with the suspected abuser.
