Boo Hoo: Firebrand Priest Suspended

Posted Jun 4, 08 6:38 AM CDT in US Politics

(Newser) – The controversial Catholic priest who mocked Hillary Clinton in a guest sermon from the pulpit of Barack Obama's church has been suspended from his own parish, reports the Chicago Tribune. Father Michael Pfleger was ordered to take a weeks-long leave of absence by Chicago's cardinal, "to reflect on his recent statements." Pfleger didn't agree that the leave was merited, the cardinal noted.

Pfleger sparked an uproar last month when he feigned tears as he pretended to be Clinton during a sermon, saying: “I’m white. I’m entitled. There’s a black man stealing my show.” The renewed controversy involving Trinity United Church of Christ prompted Obama to drop his membership after worshiping there for 20 years.
