Spurs Stifle Cavs in Opener

(Newser) – LeBron James went just 4-for-16 in the first NBA Finals of his career, while Spurs stars Tony Parker and Tim Duncan dominated, asserting the consistent, unflashy game that has won them two championships in the past four years while underwhelming casual basketball fans the nation over. Parker scored 27 points, largely from cutting into the paint.

Duncan added his customary 24 points and 13 boards, plus some blocks and a defense that managed to be both overpowering and uninteresting to watch. Rookie sharp-shooter Daniel Gibson led Cleveland with 16 points; the Spurs led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter.
