Bourbon a Day Keeps the Arthritis Away

Posted Jun 5, 08 1:19 PM CDT in Science & Health

(Newser) – Swedish scientists have found another perk for regular drinkers, the BBC reports, with imbibers up to 50% less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis. In two studies involving several thousand participants, those who downed 5 glasses of wine a week saw their risk cut in half. The study reiterated that smoking is the greatest risk factor for the onset of arthritis.

But, researchers warn, too much alcohol is still bad for you. “There is no doubt that drinking too much is very bad for our health in many ways," one researcher cautions, "and these risks by far outweigh any potential benefit for reducing the risk of rheumatoid arthritis."
