Two Daredevils Climb Times Tower

Posted Jun 5, 08 7:14 PM CDT in Arts & Living US

(Newser) – Two men scaled the New York Times' 52-story headquarters today within hours of each other, the New York Post reports. Police identified the first as Alain Robert, a French climber known as Spiderman for scaling skyscrapers with minimal equipment. He unfurled a banner reading, “Global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week.” A second man, unidentified, climbed the building hours later. Both were arrested.

Robert, whose conquests include the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House, also wore a T-shirt promoting thesolutionissimple.org. On the site, an open letter reads: “Today is World Environment Day. I have climbed in New York, to create support for far greater and urgent action from world leaders on global warming. Emissions are still climbing. So am I.” Charges are pending.
