Ethnic Media Proud of, Cautious About Candidate

Posted Jun 6, 08 3:12 PM CDT in Politics US

(Newser) – Ethnic media outlets are lauding Barack Obama's victory as a step for all minorities, but they're also holding him at arm’s length, waiting for personal attention. “The White House may not be a house for whites anymore,” said Korea Daily. Indeed, American minorities say glass ceilings broken by one group spur progress for the rest, New American Media reports.

And Obama is drawing criticism for not reaching out more: Russians, Chinese, and Latinos want his ear. Even as one group exults—“Let’s not forget he grew up in Hawaii among the Filipino community”—another writer laments, “Hillary went to Chinatown in New York several times while Obama never comes.”
