Brokeback Mountain, the groundbreaking gay love story of two Wyoming ranch hands which went on to claim 3 Oscars, will be transformed into an opera, Reuters reports. The New York City Opera has commissioned a composer to write the work. 

"Ever since encountering Annie Proulx' extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that New York City Opera has given me the opportunity to do so," he said (More New York City Opera stories.)
