6 Killed in Ohio When Fundraiser Flight Crashes

Posted Jun 9, 08 5:04 AM CDT in US

(Newser) – A small plane flown by an 86-year-old former state legislator and World War II pilot crashed in Ohio yesterday, killing six people. The single-engine plane slammed into a residential area a few minutes after takeoff, CNN reports. The passengers were taking an aerial tour as part of Lions Club pancake breakfast fundraiser. A witness said the 1968 engine “sputtered" before the crash.

“I'm a professional pilot, and I never questioned his flying,” said the lawmaker’s son. “I might not ride in a car with him, but flying a plane, it was second nature to him.”
