Governor's Messy Divorce Enthralls Nev.

Gossip flies while GOP worries about November fallout

(Newser) – For a state that boasts Sin City as its main attraction, Nevada is utterly transfixed with Gov. Jim Gibbon’s marital woes. Ever since he filed for divorce last month, Gibbons has been followed around like a starlet, with pictures of him with various alleged “other women” routinely cropping up. His wife’s siege of the governor’s mansion even made People magazine.

Dawn Gibbons eventually agreed to move to the mansion’s guest house, but not before savaging her soon-to-be-ex, calling him an adulterer and “the most scandal-ridden governor” in state history. The GOP is worried the backlash could swing the state in November. “If they get divorced—this is Nevada, for crying out loud—it's not a big deal,” said one conservative activist. “But a messy divorce, that's trouble for everyone.”
