Dungeon Girl Will Make Full Recovery: Docs

Posted Jun 11, 08 10:47 AM CDT in World Crime & Courts

(Newser) – A teenager who spent her life imprisoned in an Austrian cellar will recover fully and “develop normally” after major organ failure, said doctors at the hospital where she was treated. Kerstin Fritzl was recently awoken from an induced coma and reunited with her mother and siblings, who now live in a house on the hospital’s campus, the BBC reports.

“The family is now very happy to all be together for the first time," said a family lawyer. Kerstin, 19, is the eldest of seven children of Josef Fritzl and his daughter, Elisabeth, whom he imprisoned and raped for 24 years. Kerstin first greeted her doctor on June 1, the doctor said. “The reunion of Kerstin with her family a few days ago was a moving moment,” said the hospital director.
