Gimp Can't Hold Tiger Back

Woods stays ahead of the field and in the red at Torrey Pines

(Newser) – Phil Mickelson is out of the picture, and Rocco Mediate doesn't worry Tiger Woods much. For most of the US Open's third round yesterday, Tiger's biggest threat was his own left knee, Golf.com reports. The knee would send his tee shots flaring off the fairway, and then Woods would muster up a spectacular answering shot to secure eagle.

Tiger's turning point, the 13th green, saw him sink a 75-foot putt. On the 17th hole, a set-up shot from the rough one-hopped into the cup for birdie, causing Woods to eschew his usual fist pump for a sheepish "You've gotta be kidding me." A 40-foot eagle putt topped off his turnaround day.
