Rivals Plan Joint Unity Event

Posted Jun 18, 08 2:59 AM CDT in US Politics

(Newser) – Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will make a joint appearance in Washington next week in a show of party solidarity—despite behind-the-scenes tensions. Though Clinton's finance director invited top supporters to the event, some Hillary backers are frustrated by signals that their candidate won't be invited to join the ticket, including the Obama team's hiring of Patti Solis Doyle, a former Clinton campaign manager fired in February, to be chief of staff to the VP nominee.

Hillary "continues to stand strong for our values and priorities and will do everything she can to unify the party and to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States," says the invitation.
