(Newser) – Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will make a joint appearance in Washington next week in a show of party solidarity—despite behind-the-scenes tensions. Though Clinton's finance director invited top supporters to the event, some Hillary backers are frustrated by signals that their candidate won't be invited to join the ticket, including the Obama team's hiring of Patti Solis Doyle, a former Clinton campaign manager fired in February, to be chief of staff to the VP nominee.
Hillary "continues to stand strong for our values and priorities and will do everything she can to unify the party and to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States," says the invitation.

Since "showing up" Obama with his convention speech, Clinton has been "lavishing praise" on McCain and defending his desire to delay tonight’s debate—perhaps because he “wants Obama to lose.” More »
Sep 25, 08 2:22 PM CDT Sarah Palin may make an appearance on a Saturday Night Live, where she was so accurately mimicked by Tina Fey on the season premiere, OK! reports. The Republican’s security detail has already cased NBC’s studios in New York. Fey could also come back to reprise her role, setting the stage for a meeting a la the classic Janet Reno/Will Ferrell showdown and and Hillary Clinton's appearance with doppelganger Amy Poehler. Sep 22, 08 6:48 PM CDT Even as rumors continue to bounce around the Internet that Hillary Clinton could end up on the Democratic ticket, she never wanted to—and would only have accepted the VP slot out of a sense of duty, Bill Clinton said on The View today. “Not really, she didn’t,” Bill said when asked by Barbara Walters of his wife’s inclinations, ABC reports.
