Cindy McCain Wraps Vietnam Charity Stop

Posted Jun 19, 08 11:28 AM CDT in Politics World

(Newser) – While her rival would-be first lady made a high-profile appearance on "The View" yesterday, Cindy McCain today highlighted her charitable work with a trip to Vietnam to visit a group of children awaiting surgery for facial deformities. The children, born with cleft palates and lips, will receive free corrective surgery from a charity McCain has involved herself with since 2001.

"It's really a rare occasion to have her visit here and it is also an honor to our hospital," commented a Vietnamese doctor examining the children. McCain is no stranger to Vietnam—she also dropped in on Phuoc Thi Le, whom the McCains helped receive reconstructive surgery as a baby in 1997, after running into her uncle in Arizona.
