(Newser) – With some sports teams soaring and others tanking, there's no time like the present to jump on a bandwagon, writes D.J. Gallo for ESPN.com. In 10 easy steps, you too can latch onto a winning organization:

  1. Pick a team. Hint: avoid the losers.
  2. Get some gear, but skip the tattoo.
  3. Involve your family. They make pink jerseys for a reason.

  1. Concoct a story, however phony, for your newfound love.
  2. Get the dirt on the team's stars and goats.
  3. Get more detailed dirt, like how to pronounce tricky names.
  4. Know your enemy, and heckle him.
