Wear and Tear Could Mean Early Arthritis for Tiger

(Newser) – Doctors were impressed by Tiger Woods’ US Open win despite recent surgery and obvious pain—but they say the damage could lead to early arthritis that will eventually push him off the green, the AP reports. Next year, “he should be able to get back and compete at the same level," said one expert. "How well he holds up long-term over the next 5 to 10 years, that's what's in doubt.”

Woods chose to skip surgery last year, and while that decision could eventually hurt him, the surgery would have prevented this year’s win. “It's hard to argue with his decision,” said a surgeon. “But ultimately—as I'm sure his doctor told him—that knee problem is going to win.”
