Obama Must Talk Iraq; Here's How

(Newser) – Barack Obama may be on the right side of the Iraq issue, Fareed Zakaria writes in Newsweek, but does he want to be “prescient about the war in 2002 and yet … overtaken by events in 2008?” The Democrat needs to detail an earnest plan, and Zakaria has a speech written. Obama should “welcome the gains" yet draw contrasts with John McCain.

"In 2006, when levels of violence were horrifyingly high, President Bush and Sen. McCain said that things were going so badly that if we left, the consequences would be tragic," reads Zakaria's speech for Obama. "Today they say that things are going so well that if we leave, the consequences would be tragic. Whatever the conditions, the answer is the same—keep doing what we're doing. How does one say 'Catch-22' in Arabic?"
