Time for Mac to Get Interesting Again

Posted Jun 27, 08 9:15 AM CDT in Opinion Politics

(Newser) – John McCain is getting lost in the giant media shadow thrown by Barack Obama, but there's plenty of time to fix things, writes Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal. For every two Obamania stories, there's one "deadly" boring report declaring: "McCain Unveils Proposal.” Now would be a good time for McCain to get interesting again, Noonan says. To the McCain who in 2000 spoke with unblinking candor, she pleads: Please step up.

To "exactly wrong" aides who are pressing him to be more constrained, Noonan urges: "Let McCain be McCain. Get him in the papers being who he is, get people looking at his real nature. Maybe then they'll start taking him seriously when he talks policy. Maybe he'll start taking himself seriously when he talks policy."
