Malibu sheriffs stepped up beach patrols this weekend, in the wake of last week's ruckus between paparazzi who wanted to snap actor Matthew McConaughey and surfers who rushed to defend him as one of their own. But the anticipated fray this weekend consisted of one lone photographer with a protest sign trading choice words with beach bums, the Los Angeles Times reports.

"It's not about Matthew McConaughey. It's about the assumption these people have about what is private," said the demonstrating paparazzo. "I did this as an American, not as a photographer." (More paparazzi stories.)
