Mrs. Mac Pays Condo Taxes... 4 Years Late

Posted Jun 29, 08 11:07 AM CDT in Politics US

(Newser) – A trust company overseen by Cindy McCain has paid almost $7,000 in overdue property taxes to San Diego County, after Newsweek began looking into unpaid bills on the condo. Government notices sent to a Phoenix address were returned by the post office; and the county claims that McCain owes a further $1,742 that will go into default July 1.

"We do hear an awful lot of excuses for why people don't pay," said a tax collector. "Under the law, the property owner is responsible for keeping the address current. We're only as good as the information we are given."
