Bush 'Murder' Book a Bestseller, Despite Blackout

(Newser) – When he served as a prosecutor in Los Angeles, Vincent Bugliosi racked up a perfect record in 21 murder trials, including the Charles Manson case in 1971. As a writer, he's scored three No. 1 bestsellers; his last, about the Kennedy assassination, is being made into an HBO miniseries. But Bugliosi's newest book has been oddly bereft of mainstream media coverage, the New York Times reports. Could it be because it's called The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder?

Bugliosi lays out a legal argument that holds the president "criminally responsible" for the deaths of American soldiers in Iraq. While an aggressive Internet campaign has fueled sales of 130,000 copies, all the usual outlets have declined to cover it, including MSNBC and The Daily Show. The author says the blackout "all goes back to fear." But the editor of Newsweek offers another explanation: "I think there’s a kind of Bush-bashing fatigue out there."
