How'd We Miss Lesbian LiLo?

Posted Jul 9, 08 11:44 AM CDT in Gossip

(Newser) – Lindsay Lohan’s a lesbian? When did that happen? Turns out Star magazine first reported LiLo’s girl-on-girl romance in summer 2007—centuries ago, in celebrity gossip. Gawker explains why it took us so long to catch on.

  1. Because gay Hollywood couples try to hide it: Holding hands in public? Domestic errands as a duo? If starlets are getting hot and heavy, they also hide from the paparazzi, yet Lindsay and Sam flaunted their togetherness—genius!

  1. Because we’re tired of getting teased: Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman exchanging steamy glances in W; salacious rumors surrounding Salma Hayeck and Penelope Cruz. The girl-on-girl romance rumor mill has cried wolf too many times to pique our interest.
  2. Because it set the celebrity blogosphere on fire: Sure, we’re easy to titillate, but when standing within 5 feet of someone gets the gossip rags’ gaydar buzzing, we tend to temper everything with skepticism.

While other hot-and-heavy same-sex couples would be avoiding each other in public, LiLo and Sam spend plenty of time in front of the pap lens.   (YouTube)
What took us so long to realize Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson were a couple? Maybe because they weren't acting like they were hiding anything, Gawker posits.   (Getty Images)
Gawker reports that the fact that LiLo's lesbian affair was reported all over the celebrity blogosphere may have delayed the rest of us believing it.   (YouTube)
