Georgia Dad Charged in Daughter's 'Honor Killing'

Posted Jul 9, 08 6:25 AM CDT in Crime & Courts US

(Newser) – A Pakistani-born Georgia man appeared in court yesterday accused of strangling his daughter with a bungee cord after she filed for divorce, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The man's wife told police that he had argued with his 25-year-old daughter over her plans to end her arranged marriage. The father maintains his innocence.

The 54-year-old man appeared distraught in court, rocking back and forth, crying, and talking to himself. He said through an interpreter that he was mourning his daughter and was in no state of mind to talk. Court records show that his daughter filed for divorce on July 1, saying that her marriage was irretrievably broken. Prosecutors say her father killed her five days later.
