(Newser) – Supporters of Barack Obama have yet to ante up any substantial sums to help retire the record-breaking debt Hillary Clinton accrued during her failed campaign, the New York Times reports. Many Obama backers scoff at the idea of writing a check for an opponent so eager to disparage their man, while others only want their money used to help beat John McCain.
Clinton campaign officials report that only a “paltry sum” of less than $100,000 has been contributed by Obama donors—a far cry from the $23 million she is in the red. Clinton supporters have also complained about a lack of effort from the Obama camp to integrate the two factions through joint fundraising and honorary campaign titles.

Oct 2, 08 10:39 AM CDT Bill and Hillary Clinton are doing little to help elect Barack Obama because the Democratic nominee “balked” at promising Hillary a Supreme Court judgeship, insiders tell the New York Post. “Hillary wants an assurance that if she shows loyalty and goes out there like a good soldier, she will be rewarded with a nomination,” a source said; Clinton reps denied it. Sep 26, 08 4:50 PM CDT If Bill Clinton seems to be sabotaging Barack Obama's campaign, it may not only be for Hillary's presumed 2012 run, but because he prefers John McCain, Roger Simon writes in Pajamas Media. Since "showing up" Obama with his convention speech, Clinton has been "lavishing praise" on McCain and defending his desire to delay tonight’s debate—perhaps because he “wants Obama to lose.” More »
Sep 25, 08 2:56 PM CDT Senators and presidents have very different jobs—one debates and compromises, the other decides and acts. By suspending his campaign and heading to Washington, John McCain proves he’s a man of action, William Kristol writes in the Weekly Standard. The bold move might win over voters looking for the more “presidential” and less “senatorial” candidate—and it’s certainly more important than an overrated debate. More »
Sep 22, 08 6:48 PM CDT Even as rumors continue to bounce around the Internet that Hillary Clinton could end up on the Democratic ticket, she never wanted to—and would only have accepted the VP slot out of a sense of duty, Bill Clinton said on The View today. “Not really, she didn’t,” Bill said when asked by Barbara Walters of his wife’s inclinations, ABC reports.
