Mac Speechless on Fiorina Birth Control Slip

Can't say how he thinks insurers should handle contraceptives

(Newser) – A full day after the blogosphere was lit up over Carly Fiorina’s decidedly un-conservative suggestion that health insurers should cover birth control, John McCain still had no comment when asked about it, the Wall Street Journal reports. And a decidedly awkward no-comment, at that:

McCain: “I certainly do not want to discuss that issue."
Reporter: “But apparently you’ve voted against—“

Mac: “I don’t know what I voted.” Then confronted with his nay on mandating coverage, “I’ve cast thousands of votes…I will respond to—it’s a, it’s a…”
Reporter: “Delicate issue.”
Mac: “I don’t usually duck an issue, but I’m—I’ll try to get back to you.”

(NEWSER) - More contraception controversy: A bill before Arizona's Senate would allow all employers, not just faith-based ones, to exclude birth control from health insurance coverage. "So government shouldn’t be telling employers, Catholic organizations or mom-and-pop employers to do something that’s against their moral beliefs." (NEWSER) - If Rush Limbaugh doesn't want to absorb some of the cost of female contraception as a health insurance consumer, others are wondering: Why should we pay for Limbaugh's Viagra? "We know" Limbaugh "has used Viagra, which is covered by medical insurance plans," Dr. Nancy Snyderman points out on MSNBC. Limbaugh was detained in 2006 by Customs agents for a mislabeled bottle of the little blue pills crossing the border from the Dominican Republic. Limbaugh said at the time that they were for his personal use, even though a prescription for them was made out to his physician to "protect" his privacy, “given the potential embarrassing nature of Viagra," according to a note from Limbaugh obtained by the Smoking Gun . Limbaugh also offers aspirin for women to 'put between knees'

(NEWSER) - Rush Limbaugh isn't quieting down about birth control. After calling a Georgetown law student who supports health insurance coverage for birth control a "slut," he's now insisting that women who want contraceptive coverage should "pay" in return by posting sex videos of themselves online. "Femi-nazis, here's the deal," he announced . "If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch." He also offered to buy all the "aspirin" Georgetown women need , referring to a quip last month by Rick Santorum money man Foster Friess (Friess later apologized ). More»
