Vatican: Thou Shalt Not Speed

Posted Jun 19, 07 2:14 PM CDT in World Arts & Living

(Newser) – The pope wants you to slow down, watch your language, and pray while on the road—and not by taking the Lord's name in vain when you get cut off. The Vatican issued "10 Commandments" for motorists today, reiterating the familiar prohibition against killing and adding new guidelines for doing unto others in the age of the internal-combustion engine.

The head of the office that ministers to migrants and itinerant people issued the commandments, lamenting that "1.2 million people die each year on the roads," the AP reported. He also cautioned against road rage and recommended saying the rosary behind the wheel. No word on whether yelling "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph" in traffic counts.
