(Newser) – Bill Clinton's philanthropic foundation has struck a deal to keep a lid on the price of anti-malaria drugs, the AP reports. The former president today outlined a plan that would help limit wild fluctuation in the market for artemisinin, an extract key to treating malaria, which sickens 500 million a year. Six suppliers, and the UN, are on board, and Clinton hopes for more.
Also at the press conference, Clinton said he was ready to campaign for Barack Obama “whenever he wanted me”—and that he’d do “whatever I’m asked to do.” He re-iterated that he’d had a “good talk” with the Democratic nominee-apparent, and said he’d given no thought to speaking at the party convention next month.

Since "showing up" Obama with his convention speech, Clinton has been "lavishing praise" on McCain and defending his desire to delay tonight’s debate—perhaps because he “wants Obama to lose.” More »
Sep 24, 08 12:02 PM CDT In facing an extraordinary economic crisis, the presidential nominees are falling back on party orthodoxy instead of staking out bold new positions, Michael Gerson writes with regret in the Washington Post. Both candidates, earlier in the campaign, proved they are capable of provocative ideas, but now they're singing the old standards: Barack Obama wants to redistribute wealth despite the clearly deepening recession; John McCain wants to slash taxes despite the ballooning deficit. Sep 22, 08 6:48 PM CDT Even as rumors continue to bounce around the Internet that Hillary Clinton could end up on the Democratic ticket, she never wanted to—and would only have accepted the VP slot out of a sense of duty, Bill Clinton said on The View today. “Not really, she didn’t,” Bill said when asked by Barbara Walters of his wife’s inclinations, ABC reports.
