Locavore Movement Spurs Luxe Niche

(Newser) – The number of people seeking out locally raised food—locavores-—is on the rise, reports the New York Times, as are businesses that cater to them. People too busy (or lazy) to plant their own garden or visit a local vegetable dealer are hiring people to find the best regional grub or even cultivate produce right in their backyard.

“The highest form of luxury is now growing it yourself or paying other people to grow it for you,” said a food columnist. Businesses that cater to locavores, including one that delivers meals comprised of locally grown and fully cooked meals right to your doorstep, are popping up across the US. A pool of people can even buy a "share" in a cow or pig to reserve fresh meat.
