McCain's Long-Shot Status Slips Into No-Shot Territory
(Newser)
–
The presidential race has broken so hard in Barack Obama’s direction that Michael Grunwald asks “the question the horse-race-loving media are never supposed to ask” in Time: “Is McCain a no-shot?” The Republican is in dire straits, having lost advantage on Iran (Bush is moving toward negotiation), the economy (voters want federal intervention) and now Iraq (Maliki is with Obama on withdrawal).
Grunwald will grant that, “in politics, anything’s possible,” but “that doesn’t mean that anything’s probable.” Day by day, McCain looks less like a “long shot” and more like a “no-shot.” The bottom line, Grunwald concludes: “Everyone seems to agree that 2008 is a change election. Which of these guys looks like change?”
