(Newser) – The McCain campaign is running an Internet ad composed of photos of Barack Obama and Fidel Castro side by side, with the caption “Fidel Castro thinks he is 'the most advanced candidate,'" the Huffington Post reports. The ad is running on websites catering to South Florida, home to many Cuban expatriates and deep anti-Castro sentiment.
While the quote is true, the association is misleading. Since Obama became the Democratic frontrunner, Castro has criticized him as a politician-as-usual, and Obama has slammed Castro as a brutal tyrant. This is not the first time the McCain campaign has tried to link Obama to a foreign dictator: An online ad in June put the Dem's face cheek-to-cheek with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Aug 19, 08 9:20 AM CDT John McCain is outspending Barack Obama by a wide margin in traditional battleground states such as Ohio, Michigan, and Iowa, Talking Points Memo reports. The good news for Obama is that McCain has little to show for it in the polls in those states. But the Democrat has troubles of his own: In seven states being virtually ignored by McCain’s advertising, Obama has seen little or no boost. More »
Aug 14, 08 6:00 PM CDT Jackson Browne is suing John McCain for using his song “Running on Empty” in a campaign ad without permission, the Huffington Post reports. The Ohio GOP used the tune in a spot mocking Obama's suggestion that Americans inflate their tires. McCain's not getting much love from celebrities. Earlier this week, Mike Myers demanded that the campaign remove a web ad that had a "We're not worthy" clip from Wayne's World. More »
