Take Me Out to the Brawl Game

(Newser) – Baseball brawls don’t get much nastier than last night’s dustup between the Dayton Dragons and Peoria Chiefs. The box score: One player with a broken leg, a fan hospitalized after getting beaned by a ball, 15 players and both managers ejected, and the not-so-small matter of Peoria starter Julio Castillo facing felony assault charges, the Dayton Daily News reports.

The melee got started the usual way with a few hit batters—one of whom got struck in the head and had to leave the game. When an argument between managers on the field got physical, both benches cleared. During the 10-minute fight, Castillo tried to chuck a ball into the opposing dugout but missed and hit the lucky fan. The league temporarily overturned the ejections so pitchers wouldn’t have to play outfield. Oh, and Dayton won, 6-5.
