(Newser) – Barack Obama received an enthusiastic Paris reception today from President Nicolas Sarkozy, who said, “The French have been following him with passion”—and that the Democrat’s “adventure … rings true in the hearts in minds” of his country. The two men discussed cooperation on climate change, Iran and Afghanistan, AFP reports, before holding a jovial joint press conference.

Obama praised Sarkozy, saying his election triggered the American decision to “call French Fries French Fries again,” the New York Times adds. Responded the Gaul (who said he “never believed in Hillary Clinton's chances”), “if he is chosen, then France will be delighted. If it is someone else, France will be the friend of the United States of America.”
