Edwards Dodges Press Over Tabloid Questions

He gives reporters the slip at recent speech

(Newser) – John Edwards apparently wants nothing to do with the press these days in the wake of tabloid reports that he was caught visiting a mistress and their love child, the News & Observer reports. After giving a speech at a Washington hotel, Edwards slipped out through a kitchen exit and emerged in the rear of the hotel. When approached there by a reporter, he said, "Can't do it now, I'm sorry" when asked about the allegations.

The National Enquirer reported online earlier this month that its reporters had spotted Edwards visiting the woman, a former campaign videographer, at a California hotel. Edwards referred to the matter last week as "tabloid trash" but has not commented further.
