(NEWSER) - A South African man has been sentenced to life for his part in the gang-rape and murder of one of the country's leading female soccer players, the Independent reports. Eudy Simelane, 31, who played for the national team, was raped repeatedly and stabbed 12 times before being dumped in a river. (NEWSER) - Inglourious Basterds had a glorious opening weekend, scalping the box office for $37.6 million to give Quentin Tarantino the best opening of his career, USA Today reports. New charges expected early this week

(NEWSER) - Authorities in Rhode Island plan to charge murder suspect Philip Markoff with a third Craigslist-related crime, CBS News reports. Markoff, 23, is expected to be charged in the robbery of a stripper who was held at gunpoint in a RI hotel room; police say his fingerprints match those found at the scene.
