Singapore Airlines Sends Airbus Skyward

Posted Jun 22, 07 6:45 PM CDT in World Business Technology

(Newser) – With a $3.78 billion order from Singapore Airlines as the Paris Air Show wrapped up today, Airbus regained the lead over archrival Boeing, Bloomberg reports. The carrier ordered 20 new A350s from the world's largest maker of commericial aircraft, bringing the total of the company's record number of firm orders to $61.7 billion.

Chicago-based Boeing beat Airbus in total number of orders last year, but Airbus' 626 orders for 2007 easily surpasses Boeing's 510. If its pending nonbinding deals go through, the French manufacturer will rack up about 930 orders this year. Still,  Airbus' parent company's profits will suffer through 2010 because the new A380 is 2 years late.
