Lexus Most Reliable, Again

(Newser) – A new study by JD Power and Associates places Lexus on top for dependability for the 14th straight year, AutoWeek reports. Filling out the rest of the top five most dependable brands, with reported problems per hundred vehicles sold:

2. Mercury (151)
3. Cadillac (155)
4. Toyota (159)
5. Acura (160)

The same study found the following brands to be the least reliable, ranked by reported problems:

33. SAAB
34. Isuzu
35. Kia
36. Suzuki
37. Land Rover

Toyota to Recall 270K Cars Over Faulty Engines

High-end models can stall while moving

(NEWSER) - Toyota is preparing yet another recall, this time because of engine problems with it's top-end sedans. The company says Crown and seven models of Lexus suffer a valve-spring problem that can cause the engine to stall while the vehicle is moving, the AP reports. No official recall has been announced yet, but Japanese media report that one will be announced within days, affecting 270,000 vehicles worldwide. Toyota's Top Test Driver Killed in Lexus 'Supercar'

He dies testing prototype of car he helped develop

(NEWSER) - Toyota's chief test driver has been killed driving a prototype of a Lexus LFA "supercar." Hiromu Naruse, 67, apparently veered out of his lane and collided with test drivers in a BMW. The two drivers in the BMW survived, though one is in critical condition, AOL Autos reports. Naruse was known as "Godfather of the LFA." The prototype he crashed in Germany, a special edition version of the model, is said to have been worth $1.8 million. More»

Ford highest-ranked carmaker overall, Toyota falls

(NEWSER) - American automakers scored higher marks on quality than their foreign rivals for the first time since the JD Power survey began in 1986, the Detroit Free Press reports. A dozen Ford models ranked in the top three in their segments, making it the highest-ranked automaker overall. Ford's namesake brand ranked fifth, and General Motors had 10 brands in the top vehicle rankings. More»
